We light this candle

A reading following a terrorist attack by Rev. Lois E. F. Watkins

Leader: For the sudden and tragic loss of lives taken in this attack

Congregation: We light this candle

Leader: For the loss of lives of firefighters, law enforcement and emergency personnel while performing their assigned duties

Congregation: We light this candle

Leader: For family and friends left in shock and grief, who [will] continue to face their losses

Congregation: We light this candle

Leader: For the injured survivors in body, mind and spirit, and those who rejoice in their life and walk with them through their nightmare

Congregation: We light this candle

Leader: For our nation, that is forever changed, yet not broken in spirit and determinaion

Congregation: We light this candle

Leader: For all nations who have responded in compassion, support, and sacrifice

Congregation: We light this candle

Leader: For firefighters, law enforcement and emergency personnel who daily continue to risk their lives in the line of duty for our safety

Congregation: We light this candle

Leader: For the new life born on the very day of this tragedy, who give reason to hope and to live

Congregation: We light this candle

Leader: For our continued faith in God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Light of the world and our hope of eternal life

Congregation: We light this candle
