about moi

All that's really important to know is that I love God, my family, writing, speaking, and Chinese food—in that order.

'year in review' preview

Here's a sneak preview of our third annual, totally subjective and slightly biased look at the past year at jameswatkins.com: Brad and Jen's split, Michael Jackson's trial, the final 'Star Wars,' prophecies of New Orleans' destruction, Narnia mania and much more.

2005: Chinese year of the bloodsucker?

In many ways this past year has sucked like a leech (tsunami, hurricanes, terrorist attacks, tornadoes, wildfires, etc. etc.). Personally, Lois and I have felt drained with challenging transitions (click for details) but God's grace has provided a spiritual blood transfusion that's kept us going. I trust you've also felt His love and strength through 2005 and will sense His guidance in 2006.

visitors choose 'life or choice' debate in 2005

Predictably the most popular sites at www.jameswatkins.com involve sex: 2. 'Jim Shorts' on sex, 3. AdultSite4Adults.com and 8. The hidden habit. But surprisingly, the "pro-life" v. "pro-choice" debate came in fourth (well, it does indirectly involve sex).
- 4. Is it a life or a choice?

one year ago: tsunami unleashes wave of whys

The question of just how many lives were washed away in the December 26, 2004, tsunami remains unanswered. (Best estimates place the loss at 216,000 lives.) The question of why does God allow such tragedies also floods our world.

Christmas Day (12.25 5:00 pm)

'we need a Jesus!'

During the children's message this morning, Pastor Judy assigned parts for Mary, Joseph, and angels. After the actors were in place, three-year-old Ethan yelled out—unscripted—"We need a Jesus!" The best line all morning!
