quips and quotes capture Christmas spirit

free .mp3 music is back at jameswatkins.com

New Year's Eve I'm doing something I've always thought about, but never had the opportunity to do. I'm performing "stand up" at Sandy Cove's New Year's Eve "Extravaganza" with some of my favorite original music and comedy/drama based on fifteen years of newspaper columns. So, I've put the four songs I'm using on my new "Out of My Mind" site. Enjoy! And if you'd like me at your church, conference or convenience store grand opening, just click below.

are Narnia books 'Christian'? Lewis says yes—and no

Author C. S. Lewis said of his classic books, "Some people seem to think that I began by asking myself how I could say something about Christianity to children . . . then drew up a list of basic Christian truths and hammered out ‘allegories’ to embody them. This is pure moonshine." However, in a recently discovered letter from 1961, Lewis writes to a young reader, “The whole Narnian story is about Christ.” Hmmm?

'Hannah Claus' brings Christmas cheer

Section 12 Sub Paragraph 3 C of the Grandparent Code requires me to accost total strangers with pictures of our cute seven-month-old granddaughter, Hannah.
(I do this only to keep from having my grandparenting license revoked!) You've got to admit, though, she is cute in Mom Faith's Christmas sleeper from 1978.

Last week (11.27-)
it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas . . .

A full week with lots of Christmas and Narnia links, a free Christmas drama script, commentary on abortion, capital punishment, Jerry Falwell, and same-sex marriages, plus the rest of the story on the tragically incomplete John Cash film Walk the Line. Whew!
