about moi

All that's really important to know is that I love God, my family, writing, speaking, and Chinese food—in that order.

'trick or treat?'

What a "treat" to be able to babysit our little "punkin," Hannah Elizabeth, one or two days a week! (She's now six-months old.) The "trick" is to enjoy each moment as she quickly ages at 60 minutes per hour.
- Being a 'grandpa'
- Faith is one tough mother
- The Papoose-Driven Life
- Hannah's very first picture
- Hannah at birth
- Hannah at two months

Friday (10.28.05 5:00 pm EST)
this just in: Watkins wrong, film at 11:00!

Okay, my being wrong is not exactly a news flash, but I do want to be known as a credible source. So, when alert reader Duane Coller pointed out that I slightly distorted Bill Gothard's hammer-chisel-diamond illustration of family roles, I immediately added a clarification to my article on women's rights.

Friday (10.28.05)
Green Day to release 'Bullet in a Bible'

Popular alternative rockers "Green Day" are set to release their new CD November 15. Meanwhile, MTV is giving heavy airplay to their video "Jesus in Suburbia" which includes these lyrics:

Everyone's so full of s---
Born and raised by hypocrites
Hearts recycled but never saved
From the cradle to the grave
We are the kids of war and peace
From Anaheim to the Middle East
We are the stories and disciples of
The Jesus of suburbia

Critics (and sometimes even rock stars) are the unpaid guardians of our souls, so it may be good to ask . . .
-
Am I a disciple of the "Jesus of suburbia" or Scripture?
- Am I living a "Christian" lifestyle?
- Am I "recycled" or "saved"?

Thursday (10.27.05)
civil rights not about color, gender, religion . . .

First, my respects to
Rosa Parks (1913-2005), the black woman who refused to give her bus seat to a white man, and in so doing sparked the civil rights movement. Second, Doug TenNapel makes an excellent point that "Civil rights are not black rights, they are human rights. Blacks are human, and that's what gives them civil rights. Bears are black and get no such rights." That's why this conservative evangelical Christian supports gay rights, womens rights, . . .

should Christians celebrate Halloween?

Google "Should Christians celebrate Halloween" and you'll find around 1,000 sites with everything from "it's completely harmless" to "it's completely hellish."
- Here's a 1,001 site that's somewhere in the middle

Rice finds power in the blood

Best-selling author Anne Rice has spent twenty-five years writing about vampires, witches, and under her pen name, A. N. Roquelaure, sado-masochistic sex. So it's a truly supernatural transformation that her next book is Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt. After losing her husband to a brain tumor and almost dying herself in two life-threatening illnesses, the queen of cultism, writes in the afterword, "I was in despair." She calls Christ "the ultimate supernatural hero . . . the ultimate immortal of them all." After returning to her Catholic roots, she writes, "I promised that from now on I would write only for the Lord."
- Rice's transformation (from Newsweek)
- Christ, the "ultimate superhero"
