about moi

All that's really important to know is that I love God, my family, writing, speaking, and Chinese food—in that order.

Wednesday (09.21)
'life is difficult' author dead at 69

Author M. Scott Peck began his best-seller—and one of my top-ten life-changing books—The Road Less Traveled this way:

Life is difficult. This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths. It is a great truth because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult—once we truly understand and accept it—then life is no longer difficult. Because once it is accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.

He died a 'difficult' death from pancreatic and liver duct cancer. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fans.

Sunday (09.25)
five commandments, sermon on the hill, last snack?

The Reverend Michael Hinton, a Church of England vicar, has introduced The 100-Minute Bible, an "ultra-condensed edition" which claims to "neatly summarise every teaching from the Creation to the Revelation." A spokesperson for 100-Minute Press explains "the book has been written for those who want to know more about Christianity but who do not have the time to read the original in full." It sounds like a great idea to give seekers an overview of the Gospel, but I'll reserve judgment until I see what parts are left out. I wouldn't want to see "The Five Commandments" or half the Sermon on the Mount.
