about moi

All that's really important to know is that I love God, my family, writing, speaking, and Chinese food—in that order.

Friday (09.16)
President declares today national day of prayer

"I ask that we pray—as Americans have always prayed in times of trial—with confidence in His purpose, with hope for a brighter future, and with the humility to ask God to keep us strong so we can better serve our brothers and sisters in need," President George W. Bush. (Let's pray, not only for the disaster on the Gulf Coast, but the disaster in the Persian Gulf.)

Thursday (09.15)
Hannah's Americana

I found some new rhymes for Hannah
(sing to the tune of "Copacabana")

Let's go see Hannah's Americana
From Marion to Santa Ana
Let's see Hannah's Americana
In a bandana, her clothes in Montana
Yes, it's Hannah . . .

I'm flying to Salt Lake City to speak at an American Christian Writers seminar Saturday, so hopefully I don't lose my luggage (that would not be Nirvana).

Wednesday (09.14 8:00 PM EST)
'under God' under attack—again!

Self-professed atheist, Michael A. Newdow, has once again brought a suit to have "under God" struck from the Pledge of Allegiance and once again a California judge has agreed, calling the pledge, which is recited daily in virtually every elementary school in the United States, "unconstitutional." Deja vu 2002!

Wednesday (09.14)
'put a tiger cat in your tank'
Yep, the old oil company slogan could be updated thanks to German inventor Dr. Christian Koch. He's got a cat in his tank! He tells
Ananova.com that dead cats are heated to 572 degrees to filter out hydrocarbon which is then turned into diesel fuel by a catalytic converter. Koch claims his feline fuel costs less than a dime per gallon. His car has been purring along for 105,000 miles without any problems.

top ten signs you may be prejudiced

I wish we could permanently discard the "race card." Some are claiming that the government's response to the hurricane Katrina victims would not have been delayed if the majority had been white. Often the people who cry "racism" the loudest seem to be themselves the most prejudiced! Let's face it—we're all prejudiced about all kinds of different things, but the important thing is that we recognize it and then deal with it.

Monday (09.12)
'perplexed, but we don't give up and quit'

I suspect there is little statistical difference between the percentage of Christians and unbelievers killed or homeless following hurricane Katrina. The difference, however, is in the attitude and perspective that trusting in God's love and mercy brings.

Sunday (09.11)
08.29 could eclipse 09.11 in death toll

August 29's Hurricane Katrina could eclipse the three September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks as the greatest loss of life on U.S. soil in recent years (2,992 were killed on 09.11). America's greatest death toll, however, occurred in 1918 when Spanish influenza took 500,000 lives. These numbers are incomprehensible because people don't die in large numbers. They are lost one by one to the family members and friends who love them. So, my thoughts and prayers are with all the families and friends who are grieving losses from 08.29 and 09.11
