Focus on the Family 404s its gay quiz

Two week's ago I questioned the accuracy and appropriateness of FOTF's seven-point quiz

EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE PHOTO

Friday (09.09 7:30 pm)
'Emily Rose' possesses balanced view of demons

I just saw "The Exorcism of Emily Rose." The director tries some cheap tricks to scare the audience (I'm turning my clock radio toward the wall tonight), but he doesn't cheapen the serious subject of demons with levitating beds, projectile vomiting, or that creepy head spinning thing from
"The Exorcist." Despite all the creaking doors that open by themselves (more cheap tricks), it does open the door for discussion of what the defense calls "possibilities" of the spiritual realm.

Friday (09.09)
gay marriage bill could be terminated

Earlier this week, the California legislature passed a bill that would change the state's legal definition of marriage from "a civil contract between a man and a woman" to a "civil contract between two persons." Governor Arnold "The Terminator" Schwarzenegger is expected to veto the bill.

THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE FILM STILL

Thursday (09.08)
the lion, the witch, and the movie critics

Reviews for Disney's "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" are already being posted following recent pre-screenings. The best line: "Disney didn't screw it up." Whew!
I hope and pray C.S. Lewis' classic tale of Christ's incarnation and atonement can have an even greater impact than "The Passion of the Christ" in introducing unbelievers to Christ. The subtle power of parable
may prove much more effective than the R-rated realism of "The Passion."

Was destruction of New Orleans prophesied in July?

On July 22, 2005, self-proclaimed prophet Kim Clement made the following pronouncement:

O New Orleans God speaks to you from Houston tonight and says enough of this! For a judgment is coming says the Spirit of the Lord. For I will take the curses and the bodies will even rise and they will come forth on the water, but I will keep [the faithful], and the stench of death will only last a few days.

Tuesday (09.06)
'genuine replica' Rolex watches?

According to an email that recently sneaked through my spam filter, "Don't be fooled by imitation Rolex watches!" No, you can get a "genuine replica Rolex"! (One recent email boasted, "It's the legendary Rolexx [sic]!") Okay, can someone explain to me the difference between "imitation" and "replica" and of course the difference between a fake replica and a "genuine" replica?! There's a column in there somewhere. Developing.

Monday (09.05)
are demons, exorcisms real?

"The Exorcism of Emily Rose" possesses theaters Friday raising questions about the spiritual realm. Having personally witnessed what I believe was a very real exorcism with very real demons, my answer to the question is "yes."

remembering 09.11.01

I suspect you remember exactly where you were at 8:46 am Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The images and emotions seem as real (or un-real) as they did four years ago today. Here's how I've attempted to deal with the terrorist attacks over the years:

September 17, 2001: We are strong! We will survive!
- September 9, 2002: What we haven't learned from 09.11
- September 8, 2003: Kiss my boarding pass, bin Laden!

Last week (08.28-)
killer Katrina

The week was dominated by news of the unbelievable death toll and destruction of hurricane Katrina, plus a couple now inconsequential comments on Fred (www.godhatesamerica.com) Phelps and Evangelical lemmings.
