about moi

All that's really important to know is that I love God, my family, writing, speaking, and Chinese food—in that order.

God is never late—but He sure is slow

Waiting is one of the hardest things humans have to do. Just visit a "waiting room" for proof. And waiting for God to answer prayer can be the worst.

legalized incest?!

Political prophet Charles Colson is worried that Muth v. Wisconsin Supreme Court could legalize incest just as Lawrence v. Texas legalized sodomy. In Lawrence, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote that adults "are entitled to respect for their private lives" and that "the State cannot demean their existence or control their destiny by making
their private sexual conduct a crime.” The Muth case argues the same point.

WWJB? What would Jesus blog?

Here's something I've been thinking about in regard to my blog: WWJB? What would Jesus blog? Judging by the Gospels, He wouldn't discuss politics (although He lived in one of the most pagan, immoral governments occuping the Holy Land) or even homosexuality (although it was accepted and practiced by the Romans). Hmmm? So WWJB? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

'Pat' confused about gender—and God

Former "Saturday Night Live" star Julia Sweeney told
San Francisco Chronicle religion writer David Ian Miller why she became an atheist at 38. (She's pitching her new book My Beautiful Loss of Faith Story from Henry Holt.)

To me, the Iliad offers more insight into human character and lessons than the Bible. You know, like Jesus was angry a lot. When he turned all those people into pigs and made them run off a mountain, it was so hateful, not just to people but to pigs. I felt upset for the pigs!

Apparently she's as confused about God as her SNL character "Pat" was confused about his/her gender! Click for . . .

WRITERS ON WRITING COVER

Tuesday (08.16)
coming soon

I just received cover art for Writers on Writing, an anthology I edited with chapters by Jerry "Left Behind" Jenkins, Liz Curtis Higgs, and James Scott Bell. Other contributors include Hal Hostetler, former editor of Guideposts; Cecil Murphey, best-selling ghostwriter for Ben Carlson and Franklin Graham; Bob Hostetler, best-selling co-author with Josh McDowell; and and many more successful freelance writers and editors. Publication date is set for November. For now, here are two sneak previews:
- Keith Drury's chapter on "Writing Columns and Editorials"
- My chapter on "Seven Habits of the Purpose-driven Writer"

Monday (08.15)
keeping your kids off the news and 'Jerry Springer'

A growing number of what are being called "push over parents" are providing their teens with alcohol (24 percent of parents!) and, in recent stories from Florida and Colorado, hosting sex parties for their adolescents. Psychologist Dr. Bill Maier notes, "There is a significant number of parents in this country who are unable or unwilling to provide their children with the moral guidance they so desperately need. These parents are so concerned about being liked by their kids that they fail to place any limits on their children's behavior." With that in mind, here's a three-part series:
-
Actions rather than reactions
- Consequences rather than carping
- Discipline rather than punishment

MAXIMILIAN KOLBE

Sunday (08.14)
'seek the truth and serve it'

No one in the world can change Truth. What we can do and should do is to seek truth and to serve it when we have found it. The real conflict is the inner conflict. Beyond armies of occupation and the hecatombs of extermination camps, there are two irreconcilable enemies in the depth of every soul: good and evil, sin and love. And what use are the victories on the battlefield if we ourselves are defeated in our innermost personal selves?
Maximilian Kolbe in last issue of
the Knight

Kolbe, patron saint of political prisoners, pro-lifers, and journalists, died on this date in 1941 in a Nazi concentration camp. He lived out those powerful words in a world that had little value for truth or life. Not unlike our own.
