this week's commentaries 06.19.05

Saturday (06.25)
I'm finally organized!

In what was irritating irony, I had not been able to find my "organizer" since moving into the cardboard canyon. Just yesterday, I finally found it and actually moved into my new office after three weeks on the living room coffee table. For now—and maybe tomorrow—I'm actually organized.

Billy Graham

Friday (06.24)
Billy Graham begins New York City crusade

Despite many groups' attempts to use the 86-year-old evangelist for political and sectarian purposes, the reverend—and revered—Graham has stayed on message: "My one purpose in life is to help people find a personal relationship with God, which, I believe, comes through knowing Christ."

Thursday (06.23)
Democrats primarily 'white Christian'

I’ve always thought that, like Tinman and Scarecrow, Republicans need a heart and Democrats need a brain (read my rant). Howard “Scarecrow” Dean is the latest proof. The Democratic Party chairman made headlines when he accused the Republican Party of being "pretty much a white, Christian party." A CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll found that while 82 percent of Republicans identify themselves as "white Christians,'' the majority of Democrats, 57 percent, also consider themselves the same. So do 67 percent of all Americans. Way to alienate the electorate!

John Bolton

Wednesday (06.22)
Got votes?

After a hard, hot day of hostile questioning before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, nothing beats the cold, comforting refreshment of milk. Milk: it does a controversial nominee for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations good.

Tuesday (06.21)
'no hablo Estrogen'

Let's continue our guy theme for another day with this article on why men and women have such difficulty communicating. It's because they're speaking two very different dialects: Androgen English and Estrogen English.

Monday (06.20)
seven things Dad really wanted for Father's Day

According to a survey, husbands want more than ties, after-shave, or even gift certificates to Lowes.

Sunday (06.19)
happy Father's Day, Paul and Mike

This is a special Father's Day since son, Paul, and son-in-love, Mike, are first-time dads. Congrats, guys! Here are some thoughts on fatherhood . . .
- A look at Dad's 'real' job
- You may be a parent if you've ever said . . .
- Aren't godly parents guaranteed godly kids? Not necessarily!

and a thought-provoking (or just plain provoking political cartoon), plus my friend Michael Fraley on the Michael Jackson verdict affirming the existence of God
