this week's commentaries 06.12.05

Saturday (06.18)
lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer

Time to laze in the hammock and ponder the importance of . . . well, lazing in the hammock.
Laziness, you see, is a vital virtue! Think about it over a tall glass of lemonade. Where would we be today without this important quality?

Friday (06.17)
is that 'Patriot' or 'Paranoid' act?

I'm all in favor of Mom, apple pie, and preventing further terrorist acts against the U.S. of A., but
I'm also in favor of freedom from government intrusion into my life. Here are some thoughts on the recent
"Patriot Act" debate . . .

Wednesday (06.15)
Jackson verdict affirms existence of God

My friend, Michael Fraley, sent this quote from Tracee Raynaud, 39, of Los Olivos, California. "It's victory! God is alive and well." Michael
suggests that from this fan's comment we can deduce one or more of the following:

1) God is alive
2) God is well
3) God likes Michael Jackson
4) God is Michael Jackson
5) Both God and Michael Jackson are doing pretty well
6) The verdict is proof that God exists
7) On the other hand, a negative verdict would have proven argument for
atheism
8) What happens to Michael Jackson proves or disproves God's existence
9) Ergo, when Michael Jackson's hair caught on fire during the Pepsi
commercial,
God either didn't exist yet or God was just jealous of the
King of Pop
10) or . . . the fan is weirder than Jackson himself

Thanks, Michael (Fraley) for clearing that up. And, on a related note, Jackson's official web site claims his verdict
will go down in history along side Martin Luther King's birth, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the
release of Nelson Mandela. (The trial apparently hasn't had any effect on the self-proclaimed "King of Pop's" outrageous arrogance!)

Jackson wins case; loses health, reputation

I'm no Michael Jackson fan, but this case illustrates all the reasons to shield both the
accuser and defendent in sexual crimes.
- Is defendent due as much privacy as accuser?

Monday (06.13)
Are Tom and Katie in love? Take my test

Tom Cruise recently professed his love for Katie Holmes by jumping up and down on Oprah's couch, but is that real love? Here are some
thoughts on . . .
- Falling in love . . . and getting back up
