this week's commentaries 06.05.05

Friday/Saturday (06.10/11)
shuffling off to Buffalo . . .

I have no idea what that dance term means, but I'll be spouting off at an American Christian Writers conference there this weekend. The conference offers a great introduction to getting published.

Thursday (06.09)
being a good—and smart—Samaritan

Less than a mile from my boyhood home, a motorist stopped to help a single woman who's car had apparently broken down along side I-94. As the "Good Samaritan" got out of his car to ask how he could help, the woman's accomplice jumped up from the ditch, fatally shot the man, and stole his car. Can we really apply the story of the Good Samaritan in the 21st century?

Wednesday (06.08)
the role of women in the church

I noted in last week's posts that my wife is an ordained minister. Can she do that and still be a God-fearing, Bible-believing follower of Jesus Christ?
- The role of women in the church resource page
- Top ten reasons why men should not be ordained (humor from Ivan Emke)
- What does the Bible really say?

Tuesday (06.07)
I'm predicting mistrial in Michael Jackson trial

If my totally unscientific poll is anywhere close to accurate, the jury won't be able to come to a verdict. When asked if charges of child molestation against the dethroned "King of Pop" will stick, guests at jameswatkins.commentary said:

No, he'll "Beat it"
Yes, he's "Bad"
It's not so "Black and White"
41 percent
41 percent
18 percent

Monday (06.06)
Deep, Darth disappointment

Mystery, to me, is far more intriguing and much more satisfying than psychoanalyzing Darth Vader or even revealing the identity of “Deep Throat.”

Sunday (06.05)
'Houston, the U-Haul has landed'

Okay, not as dramatic as the Apollo moon landing, but we managed the mission without once having to radio "Houston, we have a problem." Thanks to LaOtto launch crew and "Tranquility Base" landing crew (pictured)! Now that we're getting settled in at our new station in life, I can get back to more important topics such as . . .
- Is Michael Jackson guilty? Take my totally unscientific poll
- If you do it you will go blind! But what if women designed Pfizer drugs?
- Prisoner abuse at Gitmo? Let's balance coverage with these pics
- Top ten things you won't hear at your commencement
- What do Darth Vader, "Deep Throat," and "The Masked Magician" all have in common? (Coming as soon as I get some rest)
