this week's commentaries 05.22.05

Saturday (05.28)
if you do it, you really will go blind

In the 1950's, teens were warned that pre-marital sex would make them go blind. Today, in 2005, those who were teens in the 1950's are being warned taking Viagra and similar products could make them go blind! Not so with my proposed Viagra derivatives:
- What if women designed Pfizer drugs?

Friday (05.27)
pray for persecuted Christians in India

A friend, who hosted Cec Murphey and me for a writers' conference in Hyderabad, sent word that one of his ministerial co-workers was brutally tortured to death with acid. Fundamentalist Hindus, who have harassed them in the past, are thought to be responsible. Thanks for praying for my Indian friends!

top ten things I'd rather do than move

I'm finishing up wallpapering my new office, unpacking books, and planting lilacs today. So, here are top ten things I'd rather do than move . . .
10. Wrestle alligators
9. Sit through an Italian opera
8. Eat Madagascar hissing cock roaches
7. Serve on a board or committee
6. Get my tongue pierced
5. Pass a kidney stone
4. Pick out wallpaper with my wife
3. Eat dirt
2. Ride in a taxi in India
1. Blog (okay, I really need to get off the 'net and get back to wallpapering).

Wednesday (05.25)
children who marry their parents

May is "sweeps" month and the TV talk shows are putting their "Satanic Sibling Serial Killers Who Dress Like Tramps Reunited with Their Fertility Lab Dish" guests on parade. One subject I haven't seen—at least this period—is "Children Who Marry Their Parents." And, yet, this may be the rule rather than the exception.

'Dominion' possesses movie theaters

Yet another sequel/prequel to "The Exorcist" (1973) is cast out this month, joining "The Exorcist II" (1977), "The Exorcist III" (1990), and last summer's "The Exorcist: The Beginning." But do demons really exist outside of Hollywood?

Monday (05.23)
one year later, more charges of POW abuse

Last May disturbing photos of sexually abused POWs at the U.S. prison in Iraq prompted international outrage. Just one year later, photos of prisoner Saddam Hussein in his underwear have surfaced just as abuse of POWs is being reported in Afghanistan. Let's balance those disturbing images, with these photos:

Greetings in His name.

We need your urgent prayers. Kindly pass on this information to your friends for prayer request.

Heading in the leading English newspapers in Hyderabad on 21st May 2005.

BODY OF A PREACHER BATHED IN ACID

Our evangelist K. Daniel aged 28 years has been working with me as co-worker since 2000.

He established 5 worship centers in outskirts of Hyderabad ministering among slums/construction labourers. He has total congregation of 170 people in different branches.

On January 1, 2005, there were 24 baptisms through the ministry of Daniel.

Every day morning he goes out for tract distribution. He was married to Epseba 4 years ago. His wife helps him in ladies and children ministry.

On Friday 20th morning Daniel informed his wife that he was going out for tract distribution and would be back by afternoon.

By evening he never returned back, his wife started enquiring from friends. Around 8 in the night she called me and informed me that her husband had not returned back from tract distribution.

On 21st morning we started checking in different hospitals and made a police complaint. Around 12:30 afternoon we received an information one body was found in the outskirts of Hyderabad. We rushed to the place.

If you see the heading in the paper you will understand the condition of the body.

The evangelist body was beyond recognition, the face was completely burnt, the stomach burst open, the police said they would have forced him to drink the acid. Only by seeing his pant, one of the church member recognised the evangelist.

The police took the body to the hospital. After all the necessary investigation, they handed over the body to us on Sunday at 2.00 p.m. We took the body to his native village which is around 100 miles, and was buried after a simple funeral ceremony.

This evangelist received many times threats from Hindu fundamentalists. Once I complained in the police station; not much action taken.

I am sorry I am still not in a position to explain in detail. Hope by next week I will recover from the shock. I need your prayers too.

Please uphold his wife and the new believers in your prayers.
