The trial and threatened death penalty of Abdul Rahman for converting from Islam to Christianity (see Tuesday) reveals that Afghanistan is not a democracy but an Islamic theocracy. And, Iraq's provisional parliament is considering a constitution, based on Islamic law (shari'ah) with a "repugnancy clause" that says no law can "contradict Islam."
