wednesday: afghanistan not a democracy, iraq won't be either

U.S. President Bush's dream for a free and democratic Middle East may turn into a greater nightmare than thousands of American, Afghan and Iraqi lives lost. The trial and threatened death penalty of Abdul Rahman for converting from Islam to Christianity (see Tuesday) reveals that Afghanistan is not a democracy but an Islamic theocracy.

And, Iraq's provisional parliament is considering a constitution, based on Islamic law (shari'ah) with a "repugnancy clause" that says no law can "contradict Islam." Shariah demands death for those who abandon Islam.

The Associated Press reports, "Abdul Rahman, the Afghan who faced execution for converting from Islam to Christianity, has been released." Pray for his safety as senior Muslim clerics have called for their followers to "pull him to pieces."

monday: battle lines drawn on abortion, same-sex marriage

Friday, South Dakota Campaign for Healthy Families, a pro-abortion organization, announced it would challenge the state's recently passed anti-abortion law—exactly what legislatures hoped would happen to force the US Supreme Court to rule on the legality of abortion. Meanwhile, same-sex marriage advocates have filed lawsuits to legalize such unions in seven states while seven other states are voting on ballot initiatives to ban the same.

I predicted 'big love' movement in 2003

The new HBO series, Big Love, examines the joys and challenges of a business man living with three wives who live in three houses side by side in a modern suburb. In a Newsweek article headlined "Polygamists, Unite!" the magazines reports on "polygamy activists emerging in the wake of the gay-marriage movement." It predicts, "Polygamy rights is the next civil-rights battle." Hey, I predicted that nearly three years ago!
