friday: speaking at pittsburgh, pa, writers' conference

I'll be speaking at the American Christian Writers' conference in Pittsburgh Saturday. This is a great (and economical) way to get an overview of opportunities in publishing.

thursday: lone ranger to blame for iraq war?

With the third anniversary of the Iraq war, politicians, pundits, and people around the water cooler have been pontificating how and why we got into this conflict.
Here’s my theory [new]

wednesday: godless 'god hates fags' group in town

Fred Phelps and his "God Hates Fags" (as well as "God Hates America") group is in town today to picket at a military funeral. Our son-in-love, the deputy sheriff, along with the entire county and local police department's officers will be on hand to make sure the hate group stays the required 300 hundred feet away. Good Jim hopes there are no incidents, while Bad Jim hopes Mike gets to use his taser stun gun on Phelps.

tuesday: cbs offers katie couric 15 million for anchor chair

According to the media buzz, the Today Show star is being offered 15 million per year to fill Dan Rather's empty CBS Evening News chair. Fifteen million! That's equivalent to the annual salary of 500 public school teachers or 1,500 Wal-Mart employees!
Here are some thoughts on whacky salaries from March 2001 . . .

tuesday, too: my books not worth two cents!

If you're not making 15 million, I just discovered some deals for you on
my books at amazon.com. Yep, here's your chance to get my books at low, low—shamefully low—prices. Sigh . . .

Death & Beyond: Answers to Teens' Questions About Death, Reincarnation, Ghosts, and the Afterlife (Tyndale House, 1993) 1 cent

Sex is Not a Four-letter Word (Tyndale House, 1991) 1 cent

The Why Files: When Can I Start Dating? (Concordia House, 2000) 55 cents

The Why Files: Is There Really Life After Death? (Concordia House, 2000) 94 cents

Stock up today for birthdays, graduations, bar mitzvahs, retirement parties . . .

Note: Thanks to alert reader, Ryan Long, who notes that the following authors' books are also selling online for one cent: Oscar Wilde, Robert Louis Stevenson, John Steinbeck, and even Billy Graham and Max Lucado. "Take heart, Jim, you're in good company!" Thanks, Ryan!

monday: 'Father, give our leaders wisdom'

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness (James 3:17-19, NIV).
