10:30 am est thursday: murdered peace advocate spoke out

The body of murdered peace advocate Tom Fox was found today. A group calling itself the Swords of Righteousness Brigades had held him and three other Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) activists hostage since November 26. The three others remain captive along with journalist
Jill Carol. Before Fox's abduction he wrote:

Why are we here? If I understand the message of God, his response to that question is that we are to take part in the creation of the Peaceable Realm of God. Again, if I understand the message of God, how we take part in the creation of this realm is to love God with all our heart, our mind, and our strength and to love our neighbors and enemies as we love God and ourselves.

thursday: truly great and powerful make best servants

Jesus knew that the Father had put him in complete charge of everything, that he came from God and was on his way back to God. So he got up from the supper table, set aside his robe, and put on an apron. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the feet of the disciples, drying them with his apron (John 13:3-5, MSG).
People who know who they are—and don’t feel they have to prove themselves—are the most giving and serving people I’ve ever met. I find that “wannabes” and “almost famous” people, who are trying to prove to others and themselves their importance, refuse to serve. One general church leader, who was traveling to Africa and asked to deliver a package to missionaries there, refused saying, “I’m not a delivery boy.” The truly great and powerful, make the best servants.

wednesday: print v. pixels, can newspapers survive?

World magazine's Joel Belz argues that the Internet poses a "triple whammy" threat to print media:
• immediacy (just click "refresh" for the latest)
• economy (it's free) and
• accessibility (anyone with access to a computer is a potential consumer.)
These challenges that can be creatively overcome, according to The Wall Street Journal—which I read online for free. (And there will always be a need for newsprint to pack dishes, mask areas when painting and housebreak puppies.)

5:00 pm tuesday: internet anonymity safe . . . for now

A proposed New Jersey law that would have banned anonymous postings on the Internet, died in committee thanks to nationwide outrage. Unfortunately, the government has ruled that google.com must turn over porn-related search results.

tuesday: questions swirl in wake of deadly tornadoes

Ten people were killed and hundreds left homeless as 100 reported tornado touchdowns raked the Midwest this weekend. (We're safe and sound.) Following December 2004's tsunami, Rabbi Daniel Lapin wrote an excellent response to the question, "Why does God allow deadly, natural disasters?"

Armed with a yellow highlighter pen, I worked my way through the printed-in-red teachings of Jesus to understand what He taught we must do to inherit eternal life. What I found suprised—no, shocked—me.
