saturday: is that da vinci or doo-doo code?

To adapt Ernest Hemingway for a family audience, “The most essential gift for a good writer is a built-in, shockproof [doo-doo] detector. This is the writer’s radar and all great writers have had it.” If that’s the case, The Da Vinci Code author, Dan Brown, is in deep doo-doo. He claims, on an opening page titled “Fact,” that "all descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents, and secret rituals in this novel are accurate." And on his Web site, he claims the mega-best-seller is “thoroughly researched and factual in all respects.” To which I reply, doo-doo, doo-doo, doo-doo!

friday: art influencing life?

Brokeback Mountain, the gay cowboy movie, has been nominated for eight Academy awards including best picture, best actor and best director. Also nominated for best picture and best actor, Capote, the biopic about openly gay writer Truman Capote. Meanwhile, desperate housewife Felicity Huffman was nominated for best actress for Transamerica, the story of a transexual transformation from man to woman. Is this art imitating life? Or is it art attempting to influence life?

sunday: 'christians' attack muslims in nigeria

Thursday, while the world was focused on Muslim bombings and rioting in Iraq, this disturbing news item got buried in Section B:

ONITSHA, Nigeria (Reuters) - Christian youths burned the corpses of Muslims on Thursday on the streets of Onitsha in southeastern Nigeria, the city worst hit by religious riots that have killed at least 146 people across the country in five days. Christian mobs, seeking revenge for the killings of Christians in the north, attacked Muslims with machetes, set fire to them, destroyed their houses and torched mosques in two days of violence in Onitsha, where 93 people died.

I didn't hear a word of protest from any Christian groups. So here goes. This is certainly not "Christian" behavior and to do it in the name of Christ blasphemes His name.
