Wednesday (01.25)
closing The Book of Daniel

Don Wildmon's American Family Association is taking credit for NBC canceling the dreadful drama
The Book of Daniel. Meanwhile, the show's
producer Jack Kenny called the AFA "bullies [who] work to try and prevent you from seeing these beautiful shows,
and that is censorship—pure and simple. And that is both un-Christian and un-American." Could it be the show
was simply dreadful with
|
unlikeable, two-dimensional caricatures rather characters and uninspired writing?!
Could it be it got clobbered by Numb3rs and 20/20? Could it be viewership dropped 32 percent since
its premier? Viewer discernment is not censorship!

Keith Drury plows into 'seed faith' preachers

"I get angry when parachurch preachers promise poor people that God will bless them if they 'plant a seed of faith'
by sending money to the televangelist. Hogwash! If this is true then the televangelist should send money to the
listeners—then God could bless their own seed-faith! Seed faith preaching is a signal of crooked hucksterism." (Yeah,
Keith, but how do you really feel?)

Monday (01.23)
I've got nothin'

One of the toughest challenges of writing a weekly newspaper column,
and now updating a daily blog, is coming up with fresh,
relevant ideas that you'll find helpful and thought-provoking (or, if all else fails, just plain provoking). This morning, I've got nothin'!
So, here's a previous column about such times.

Sunday (01.22)
'black Jesus' premiers at Sundance film festival

Reuters is reporting that "the world's first black Jesus movie, Son of Man portrays Christ as a
modern African revolutionary and aims to shatter the Western image of a placid savior with fair hair and blue eyes.
The South African film, which premieres on Sunday at the U.S. Sundance festival in Utah,
transports the life and death of
|
Christ from first century Palestine to a contemporary African state
racked by war and poverty."
Accurately portraying the Son of God/Son of Man in film and television has always been an impossibility, but some
have come closer than others. (At least this attempt is closer to the original than
The Book of Daniel's
surfer-dude Jesus!) The apostle Paul writes in
Galatians 2:20
that the best portrayal of Jesus is His followers living out His teachings and lifestyle.
