Can't understand the lyrics on my .mp3 music? Or simply suffering

Luke Warm
© Copyright 1978 James N. Watkins

Sunday morning you can see him arrive,
Wearing tailor-made suits and imported ties,
He finds a space for his new Jaguar,
Then runs for the door, he's late for the choir,
Luke Warm. Luke Warm.

Now ev'ryone knows he's a church-going man,
Pays his tithe, is an active layman,
All the folks think he'll make it to heaven,
'Cause on the church league he bowls two-eleven,
Luke Warm. Luke Warm.

No one knows where Luke came from,
Or how he got that tidy sum,
Perhaps he got it in a church in Maine,
Where he won the pot in a Bingo game,
Luke Warm.

But then that day of the terrible scare,
When suddenly folks just weren't there,
People started crying and hearts beat fast,
Everyone thought they'd breathed their last,
'Cept Luke. Luke Warm.

Luke called a meeting of the board,
"Nothin' to worry, it's just the Lord,
"Has punished those who upset our plans,
"Those Bible wavers are gone, amen!"
Said Luke. Luke Warm.

But now ole Luke doesn't look so smug,
As he stands in front of the Mighty Judge,
"You never knew me as your Savior and Lord,
"At least you won't be luke warm any more."
Luke Warm. Luke Warm.

The Prodigal Son Who Stayed Home
© Copyright 1978 James Watkins

We all bad mouth the prodigal son,
We say that he was a really bad one,
But, how 'bout the prodigal son who stayed home?
While brother was out living' in sin,
The other one had hate and greed within.
One sinned afar, the other at home.

[chorus]
'Cause you can't go a pointin' at what others do,
Sin's a thing just 'tween God and you,
You don't have to ramble and you don't have to roam,
You can be a prodigal and stay home.

The prodigal repented of all of his sin,
Dave gave a party for all of the kin,
Brother got mad and said, "I'm not gonna go!
"I've worked for you all of this time,
"While brother was out with women and swine!"
His hate and greed started to show.

[chorus]

Sins are thoughts we have within,
Deeds aren't needed to commit any sin,
It's tellin' God you're goin' your own way.
So, take another look at the prodigal son,
Take another look at the things you've done,
You might have sinned just as bad today.

[chorus]

The Eyeball Song (1 Corinthians 12)
© Copyright 1974 James N. Watkins

Walkin' down the sidewalk headed for the office,
Up ahead I saw the awfullest thing I'd ever seen,
A giant eyeball rollin' down the road,
I jumped behind a bush and cried, "O, Lord,
Don't let that thing get a hold of me!"
Well it was just a part of somebody's body,
Feelin' proud and high and mighty,
"Don't need the rest of you," it cried.
But then an awful thing occured,
I guess the eye just hadn't heard the firetruck that hit the eye broadside.

'Cause it was just a part of somebody's body,
Feelin' proud and high and mighty,
"Don't need the rest of you," it cried.
But laying there flat on the road
I guess the eye just should have known,
You've gotta have your ears to stay alive.

Mind, Body, and Soul
James N. Watkins
© 1989 Indiana Wesleyan University

The hands on the clock chop our world in tiny parts,
They cut us into pieces from our heads down to our hearts,
Nine o'clock means math class; ten o'clock--P.E.,
Six o'clock's a study date and eight o'clock's TV.

[chorus]

But He loves you completely,
He makes your shattered life whole,
'Cause He loves you completely,
Mind, body, and soul.

The calendar decides the roles we need to play,
One person this moment, another the next day,
A "date," a "student," "church member," an "athlete," or a "star,"
We need to check our date books to find out who we are.

[chorus]

And when your life seems severed in a thousand different parts,
Someone wants to love you from your head down to your heart,
He'll put it all together, He'll make your life seem whole,
He'll fill you with His Spirit mind, body, and soul.

[chorus]

Rejection-Slip Blues
© 1995 James N. Watkins
(Dedicated to Jim's writer friends)

My story got rejected,
My manuscript was trounced,
My publisher went bankrupt,
Their royalty check bounced,
My PC hard-drive's crashed,
And now there's postage due,
I've got the rejection slip, rejection slip blues.

My book was finally published
after oh so very long,
They changed my clever title,
They spelled my name wrong,
My book sold fifty copies
'cause I bought forty-two,
I've got the rejection slip, rejection slip blues.

I flew to this conference,
My luggage who know where,
My room-mate kept me up all night
a snorin' like a bear,
And who to show my manuscript
I haven't got a clue,
I've got the rejection slip, rejection slip blues.
I've got the rejection slip, rejection slip blues.
I've got the rejection slip, rejection slip blues.

Faith the Facts
© 1977 James N. Watkins

What do you do when the feelings dry up,
Your heart's left holding an empty cup,
And the taste of the living water seems so far away?
But I know there's a fountain in my soul so real,
I've got faith in things that I can't feel,
It's faith in knowing Jesus flows in me.

I can't feel the breeze that once cooled this place,
My lips are dry, the sun's in my face,
How I long to feel the coolness of His touch.
But I know in my soul that His Spirit's real,
I've got faith in things that I can't feel,
It's faith in knowing His Spirit breathes in me.

Feelings are like shifting sand by the sea,
Beautiful to view, but no stability,
And the life that you tried to build on them fell flat.
But my foundation's on the Rock so real,
I've got faith in things that I can't feel,
It's faith in knowing Jesus anchors me.

I Wish You Faith © 1996 James N. Watkins
(Performed at his daughters' graduation by her show choir)

I wish you truth for your decisions,
I wish you doubts to make you sure,
I wish you fear to give you caution,
I wish you courage to keep you pure,
But beyond these hopes and wishes,
one prayer soars high above,
I wish for you my graduate
faith and hope and love.

I wish defeats to make you humble,
I wish success to let you soar,
I wish you tears to make you tender,
I wish you joy and so much more.
For beyond these hopes and wishes,
one prayer soars high above,
I wish for you my graduate
faith and hope and love.

So as you stand and face tomorrow,
When life gets rough and tough,
There's someone who believes in you
with faith and hope and love.

So I wish for you my graduate
faith and hope and love.

True Love
© 1991 James N. Watkins

[chorus]
True love lasts eternally.
It's patient and kind, it never envies.
Always forgiving, trusting, and true.
It only wants what is best for you.

Bill fell in love in History class.
Joan was so certain the feeling would last.
But somewhere between World War I and War II
this couple's became history too.

But . . . [chorus]

Brian and Amy felt love yesterday.
But now all the feelings seem a light-year away.
Confused and uncertain they made love last night.
Now they feel nothing in cold morning light.

But . . . [chorus]

Kevin and Heather were married last year,
but soon the romance seemed to disappear.
Now he works late; she's rarely home;
their lawyers discuss the divorce on the phone

But . . . [chorus]

Percy and Gladys have shared sixty years,
The good and the bad, the laughter and tears.
They'd do it again if they had the chance
through the ups and the downs of a lasting romance.

'Cause . . . [chorus]

Love Triange
© 1972 James N. Watkins
(Jim wrote this song as a proposal to Lois Farra. She said "yes"!)

Woke up this morning, the two of you on my mind,
Thinking how you're changing me, seeing where I am blind,
And I look up to the sky above, and wonder if you knew,
How nice it feels, loving God and you.

Sharing our dream together, talking of His love,
Caught up in a triangle with you and God above,
And I wonder how I got by, 'fore I met the two of you,
Now I'm complete, loving God and you.

Wonder if it will last this time, the feeling 'tween me and you,
Or if it's another transition from "her" to someone new,
But if my wish is answered, and if it's His wish too,
I'll spend my life, loving God and you.

Lois

(Jim's wife walked down the aisle to this ballad)

If I could write the love inside,
Pen the feelings that abide,
I'd send a letter, address it to you.
If I could draw the love I feel,
Sketch the love I know is real,
I'd paint that picture, I'd frame it for you.

[chorus]
And yet I never seem to find,
The way to say, "I'm glad you're mine."
To say how much I love you.

If I could write a song or two,
Find a rhyme for "I love you."
I'd write that song, I'd sing it for you.
But I can show you by my life,
Live these thoughts through joy and strife,
I'll try my love, I'll live them for you.

[chorus]

Pearly Gate Boogie
(c) 1978 James N. Watkins

One of these days we're gonna take a ride,
Gonna kiss our earthly situation bye bye.
'Cause when we go to heaven there's some things we gotta leave,
But don't be disappointed we're gonna be relieved of . . .

Acne, aches and pain, no more nausea,
You won't need a doctor to come and see ya.
There'll be no more mosquitoes, broken hearts or tears,
You're gonna "Have a Nice Day" for a zillion years, 'cause . . .

[chorus]

Guns and tanks, guided missiles, bombs and soldiers too,
There'll even be real peace between the Arabs and the Jews.
No padlocks and bank vaults, rooms with iron bars,
You can even leave your keys hangin' in the car.

[chorus]

Undertakers, casket makers, fun'ral homes and more,
'Cause when you go to heaven, you'll live forever more.
No temptation, no more Satan, no more demons either,
They're gonna be the fuel for God's judgment heater!

[chorus]

. . . sin!
